Apparently comments.php only retrieves comments of the type 'comment' (so no 'pingback'). By simply removing the 'type' criteria, you get it all. Then there's a little CSS hacking to be done, since only regular comments (not pingbacks) are styled properly. Let me know if you want more details on the fix. Anyway, it's works like a charm now.
