Hear Me Speak in February
Published last year, at the end of January under DesignIf you’re a regular reader, you’re familiar with my fixation on justifying design decisions. I’ve written about it, interviewed others about it, and now I’ve boiled it all down into a brief presentation entitled Justifying Design.
I’ll be giving the talk twice—two days, two cities. On February 28th I’ll be speaking at the fantastic local mini-conference, Refresh the Triangle (RSVP here), and on the 29th I’ll be speaking outside of Washington DC at the DC Design Talks conference (site is now live!). These will be my first speaking gigs—I couldn’t be more excited.
The talk will focus on the tools and processes Web designers can use to effectively solve design problems with justified design decisions. I’ll also be exploring the problem solving processes of great designers like Paul Rand and Ladislav Sutnar, drawing parallels to Web design. It’s about 30 minutes long, plus 5-10 minutes for questions.
So if you’re in the Triangle or DC area, come by and say hello!

Sounds like a grand old time.
I’ll be at both!
There’s a good chance you’ll be seeing me in DC, Mr. Goodlatte. More details as soon as I know, but hopefully everything works out.
That’s great, Rob. The NC event is only a 4 hour drive from where I’m at, so technically I could take a half day off at work, drive up, attend the conference and make it home by about midnight. That might not be a good idea though as the 28th is my birthday and I’m guessing Ames has already made dinner plans. :) Congrats anyway! You headed back to SxSW again this year?
Jason—I’ll definitely be at SXSW this year. See you there!
Patrick—You’re speaking too? Awesome!
Looking forward to having you up at Viget HQ — should be a great group and some really interesting talks.
That’s great I’ve been hearing about you in the Triangle and I’ve been following your work online for a while, I’ll be live streaming the Refresh the Triangle event. This will be my 4th Refresh event and they keep getting better and better.
Looking forward to meeting you.
Wayne
Looking forward to meeting you… awesome topic.
I think I will be able to make it to DC, as it is not far from my metro route. All of the topics seem very promising. I can’t wait!
Wish I could make it. Definitely keep us updated with future dates.
